OREANDA-NEWS. Moscow and Berlin intend to continue cooperation on archival documents. This was announced on Wednesday by the German ambassador to Moscow, Geza Andreas von Geir, at the last ceremony of transferring to Russia the first batch of digitized archives of Soviet prisoners of war.

The ambassador emphasized that the joint project demonstrates a will for sincere memory, especially on topics that seem difficult for the Germans. "This is not a distorted view of our history, including the darkest of all eras. And this is part of our modernity. We know that we are responsible for transmitting the memory of what happened, so that it never repeats itself", he added.

The head of the diplomatic mission called this project a sign of reconciliation and expressed the hope that these documents will allow many families to gain clarity about the fate of their ancestors. The diplomat also mentioned another project of the foreign ministers of the two countries, which is being implemented this year in St. Petersburg.
