French Police Detained a Man Suspected of Involvement in the Terrorist Attack in Nice
OREANDA-NEWS. French law enforcement officers detained a 47-year-old man as part of an investigation into a terrorist attack in Nice. This was reported on October 30 by the TV channel BFM, citing a source in police.
According to him, the man was detained on Thursday evening. He is suspected of having contacted the perpetrator the day before the attack on the parishioners of the Basilica of Notre-Dame. Other information about the detainee is not provided.
On October 29, a man armed with a knife attacked the parishioners of Notre-Dame in the center of Nice. As a result of the incident, three people died, and the criminal was arrested. The French National Anti-Terror Prosecutor’s Office joined the investigation. According to the deputy of the French National Assembly, Eric Ciotti, the attacker is a native of Tunisia, who recently arrived in France from Lampedusa.
Two hours after the attack in Nice, another offender threatened passers-by on the streets of Avignon with a knife; he was shot dead while trying to attack a police patrol. In addition, on the same day in the Saudi city of Jeddah, a local resident stabbed a guard of the French consulate; the police arrested the attacker at the crime scene.
