OREANDA-NEWS. Russia demands that the United States fulfill its obligations as the host state of the UN headquarters by providing entry to the head of the Russian delegation. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

Zakharova indicated that Russia sent qualified experts to the session of the UN Disarmament Commission in New York, but this practice was interrupted in 2019 - then the US authorities did not issue an entry visa to the head of the Russian delegation and continue to do so to this day.

As Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday, "Without ensuring equal working conditions at the commission's site for all experts of the UN member states, holding an organizational and substantive session of the commission loses its practical meaning. And in this regard, we demand that the US authorities radically reconsider their line, return to the responsible fulfillment of obligations as the host state of the UN headquarters by ensuring the entry into the United States of the head of the Russian delegation to participate in the work of the commission. "

"The crisis situation around the UN Disarmament Commission is not an isolated case, but the result of Washington's systemic illegal visa practice in relation to UN experts from the organization's member states, as a result of which substantive work in the UN Disarmament Commission has actually been suspended," she said.

Zakharova pointed out that the American authorities grossly violate their obligations under the 1947 agreement on the UN headquarters and ignore the key provisions of the UN General Assembly resolution.
