Foreign Ministry Appealed to the Czech Authorities over the Detention of a Russian in Prague
OREANDA-NEWS. The Czech Republic has not yet informed Russia about the detention in Prague of Russian citizen Alexander Franchetti and the charges brought against him, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“No, at least at the time when I came to these negotiations, the Czech side did not inform. Relevant inquiries were sent through the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic and an official inquiry through the Investigative Committee. We want to understand what is incriminated to our citizen ... Maybe this is a fight against neo-Nazis represented by the so-called "volunteer battalions", which are recognized as illegal even in the West. We want to understand what this is about, "he said at a press conference following talks with the Secretary of State of San Marino.
The minister also expressed the hope that in the situation with Franchetti, the Czech authorities will strictly follow the law and will not succumb to political provocations.
On Sunday, the press secretary of the Czech Police Presidium, Ondrej Moravchik, told RIA Novosti that a Russian citizen was detained at the Prague airport on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by Ukraine. In turn, the press secretary of the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic Nikolai Bryakin confirmed to RIA Novosti that a citizen of the Russian Federation Alexander Franchetti was detained at the Prague airport.
The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to study the reasons and legal grounds for the detention of a Russian citizen at the Prague airport on a warrant issued by Ukraine, according to the website of the RF IC.
