OREANDA-NEWS  Finnish Interior Minister Mari Rantanen commented on the possibility of opening the border with Russia, saying that there are no such plans yet. This is reported by the Finnish edition of Yle.

According to the minister, despite the adoption of the law on the expulsion of refugees, there is no talk of opening the eastern border of the country. This issue will be discussed if the border authorities consider the situation with asylum seekers to be stable.

Today, there are more than 700 asylum seekers from Russia in Finland. This figure is noticeably higher than in other countries of the region.

Finland's eastern border has been closed for more than six months due to the influx of refugees. Finnish politicians consider Russia to be one of the main threats to the security of the country and its residents. In March, the Interior Ministry requested tens of millions of euros for the accelerated construction of a fence on the border.
