Federation Council Approved a Law Giving the Right to the Russian President to Run Again for Two Terms
OREANDA-NEWS. The Federation Council approved on March 31 at a meeting a new law that, in particular, gives the current leader of state the right to be re-applied for two terms as a president of the state. Also, the new law expands the list of limits under which a citizen of the Russian Federation cannot run for the position of a Russian State Duma deputy.
Thus, the law on elections and referendums is being brought into line with necessary amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation. One of the authors of the bill was Andrei Klishas, the chairman of the Federation Council committee on constitutional legislation.
The law points out the conditions connected with the limitation on taking the appointment of President of the Russian Federation for more than two periods. The clause of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which restricts the amount of periods during which one person can be the head of the Russian Federation, refers to the person who already held the presidency of the Russian Federation, without taking into consideration the amount of periods during which this individual held this post at the time of the entering into force of the relevant amendment to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, and does not exclude the chance for this individual to become the President of the Russian Federation for the periods permitted by the above-mentioned clause, the law says.
