OREANDA-NEWS. Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas advocated ratification of the border treaty with Russia, but expressed the view that it is unlikely in the near future. "It's better that there is specificity, clarity regarding the border, this is necessary", the portal Er-Err quotes him on Wednesday. "But I don't think that this is very likely in the coming years".
At the same time, the Estonian prime minister spoke out for continuing the dialogue with Moscow. “In any case, I support the fact that we do not sit in different corners of the room, like quarreling neighbors, but try to maintain a dialogue”, he said. “Of course, we will maintain this dialogue on the platform of those values that are important for Estonia and its allies".
As the Speaker of the Riigikogu (unicameral parliament) Henn Põlluaas stated on Tuesday, the ruling coalition in Estonia decided that it wouldn't ratify the border treaty with Russia. He emphasized that even if the border agreement is ratified by the State Duma, Estonia shouldn't ratify this document for its part.
The Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky said on December 16 that ratification of the border treaty between Russia and Estonia is possible "in the foreseeable future".
