OREANDA-NEWS. President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, denied the information that his country sent Syrian fighters to participate in the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

As The Wall Street Journal previously reported, hundreds of Syrian militants linked to Turkey have joined the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh, and hundreds more are preparing to be sent. “Hundreds of fighters from Syrian militias allied with Turkey have joined the fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, and hundreds more are preparing to go, according to two Syrians involved in the effort,” the publication reads.

The news that Turkey was recruiting militants spread in July after fighting broke out again in the region, sources told journalists.

According to one of the newspaper’s interlocutors, for participation in battles, mercenaries receive up to 2 thousand US dollars a month.

“They say that we sent fighters from Syria. There is no such problem. They have business in their own territories, so they will not go there,” Erdogan said, commenting on this information in the national parliament.
