OREANDA-NEWS. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) together with individual entrepreneurs have provided more than a quarter of jobs in the Russian market as of the end of the first quarter of 2019, according to the results of a Sberbank survey published on Monday. According to the SberDannaya project, 18.3 million jobs in Russia, or a quarter (25.6%), created small and medium businesses, 18.6% are legal entities and 7% are individual entrepreneurs. “More than half of those employed in SMEs are concentrated in only 10 regions of Russia. More than 20% are in Moscow, another 8% are in St. Petersburg”, the study says.
In the microbusiness, on average, there are three employees each, in small companies - 27 people, and in medium ones - about 97. The number of employees for individual entrepreneurs is smaller: 18 people - for small companies and 59 - for medium-sized companies. At the same time, individual entrepreneurs rarely grow to medium-sized businesses - in June of the current year there were only 316 such organizations.
In terms of the level of employment in SMEs, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region take the first place, the second is Moscow and the region - with 244 and 277 employees, respectively, per 1,000 people of working age and older. The figure of 200 people also overcame the Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad and Sakhalin regions. In the regions of the North Caucasus, employment in SMEs was the smallest. On average in the country, the number of people employed in SMEs is 155 per 1000 people.
According to the study, the higher the employment in SMEs in a particular region, the lower the unemployment rate. Most of all jobs entrepreneurs create in trade - 31.4%, almost 15% - in manufacturing, and 10% - in construction. SMEs and individual entrepreneurs are practically not present in the state administration, social welfare and education, the share of those employed here is less than 1%.
