OREANDA-NEWS. Businessman Oleg Deripaska notified the Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory, where they filed a lawsuit against foreign newspapers, The Telegraph and The Times, about the recognition of the information they distributed as invalid, and their readiness to translate court documents into English. This was reported to the Russian media by his lawyer Alexey Melnikov.
Deripaska filed a lawsuit against these publications due to the fact that the materials published in them became the reason for the introduction of personal sanctions against him in 2018. Representatives of Deripaska explained to the Russian media that the lawsuit belongs to the category of protecting business reputation, they didn't claim moral compensation. The court accepted the lawsuit, the date of the preliminary hearing is set for October 11.
“We filed a statement on the plaintiff’s readiness to provide the court with necessary assistance in translating court documents into English and delivering them to the defendants as soon as possible. This confirms our desire to do everything possible for the representatives of the defendants to participate in the process and to give them the opportunity to present evidence of the published reliability in an open trial. According to the law, the obligation to prove the accuracy of the information lies with the distributors of the information", Melnikov said.
He noted that in court practice, such procedures are applied, since there are certain difficulties for the court to ensure the translation of documents when foreign participants participate in the case. According to the lawyer, this petition emphasizes the interest of his principal in providing defendants with the opportunity during the trial to explain what the information they disseminated defaming the plaintiff is based on.
