Clashes Between Police and Poroshenko Supporters Began in Kiev
OREANDA-NEWS. Clashes with law enforcement officers have begun at the courthouse in Kiev, where a decision on the possible arrest of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is to be announced soon, reports Russian media RIA Novosti. A video appeared on social networks where police officers are trying to push back the crowd.
«Clashes between supporters of Poroshenko and the police stopped at the court, but quickly resumed», the Telegram channel RIA Novosti reports. The meeting on the election of a preventive measure for ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in the Pechersk District Court was previously postponed until January 19.
A criminal case has been opened against Poroshenko under articles on the financing of terrorism, treason and the creation of a terrorist organization. The reason for the accusations was the supply of coal to Kiev from the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
The prosecutor asked the Pechersk district Court of Kiev to arrest the ex-president of Ukraine with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of about $35.7 million in the case of treason, follows from the petition. The prosecution also demanded that Poroshenko hand over his passports.
