OREANDA-NEWS  The aging of China's population was the result of the country's active economic development. This was stated by the deputy rector of the People's University of China, director of the Institute of Gerontology and one of the leading demographers of China Du Peng, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

He explained that for this reason, China adheres to a "positive attitude towards the aging of the population." Du Peng recalled that after the formation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the average life expectancy was about 40 years, now it has exceeded 78 years. At the same time, the number of people who lived to 100 years in China in 2020 was 118.8 thousand, which is more than in the USA and Japan (100 and 90 thousand, respectively).

At the end of August, the demographer predicted that the problem of the aging population in China will worsen in the next decade. Du Peng expects that every year the number of citizens over the age of 60 will grow by 10 million per year and by 2050 will reach 520 million, or 37.8 percent of the population.
