China Notified UN about Joining the Arms Trade Treaty
OREANDA-NEWS. China has acceded to the Arms Trade Treaty. The Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, handed over the relevant document to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
According to Zhang Jun, the Chinese government supports the goals and objectives of the Treaty, and agrees to take all necessary measures to regulate the international arms trade and combat its illicit transfer. He noted that joining the international agreement is another important step in the country’s participation in global arms trade management to ensure international and regional stability.
Chinese Permanent Representative also drew attention to the fact that today, unfortunately, one-sidedness has become a problem of the world community. So, some states are withdrawing from arms control agreements and international treaties, which has led to undermining the efforts of all countries to solve global problems.
The Arms Trade Treaty was adopted by the United Nations on April 2, 2013 and entered into force on December 24, 2014. Currently, it is signed by 107 states.
