OREANDA-NEWS China intends to strengthen strategic coordination with Russia, Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui said in an article written for RIA Novosti.

"The Russian side clearly opposes Taiwan's "independence" in any form and firmly supports China's actions to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to unify the country. President Putin has repeatedly emphasized this position, and it has also been clearly reflected in several important documents from the two countries.

The diplomat noted that under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, bilateral relations are at the highest level in history.

"The Chinese side highly appreciates Russia's position and firmly supports Russia's efforts to ensure national security, stability, development, prosperity, sovereignty and territorial integrity," Zhang Hanhui added.

The Ambassador recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

"As a reliable pillar for world peace and development, China is ready to work with Russia to continue implementing the important agreements reached by the heads of state, jointly promote a correct view of the history of the last war, and firmly defend the results of World War II and the international order established after the war," the ambassador stressed.

He also announced Beijing's intention to strengthen strategic coordination with Moscow, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and contribute to the development and revival of both countries, as well as the promotion of global prosperity and stability.

Official relations between the central government of the People's Republic of China and Taiwan were interrupted in 1949 after the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek, who were defeated in the civil war, moved to the island. Beijing does not recognize Taiwan's sovereignty and is jealous of other countries' contacts with it, insisting on a "One-China Policy." It implies that Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory, and the PRC authorities are the only legitimate Chinese government.
