OREANDA-NEWS. Russian woman Maria Butina, released from prison in the United States, spoke about the conditions of detention in the Washington prison, where she was during the trial. CBS broadcast on Sunday an interview with a Russian citizen, which was recorded shortly before her release.

“One of the things Butina wanted to touch on was the conditions in the Washington prison where she was staying for the first time. Cockroaches were everywhere, she said. No mattresses or blankets”, the TV presenter said. “This is torture,” Butina emphasized. “It’s not normal that a person is locked up for 23, 20, 22 hours in a cell alone. Do you really think that the papers weren't submitted?"

The Russian woman also said that faith helped her in difficult times in prison. “God found me. He is always there and helped me through all these difficult days,” Butina said. When she was imprisoned, she was visited by Archpriest Victor Potapov, Rector of St. John the Baptist Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in Washington. He often communicated with her on religious topics and left her spiritual literature.
