OREANDA-NEWS The BRICS wanted to help the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LACB) get out of the crisis. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
Alexander Yakovenko, Deputy General Director of the Russia Today Media Group, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, said that BRICS inspires hope for the LACB countries to overcome the complex and systemic development crisis through the diversification of external relations. "In the meantime, trade with the United States accounts for up to 75 percent, and migrant transfers from the United States account for 30 to 40 percent of the national GDP of a number of countries," he explained.
In addition, Yakovenko noted that for LACB countries, as in the case of Africa, the process of joining BRICS is becoming an important practical, political and ideological resource. So, at the Kazan summit, Bolivia and Cuba have already received the status of partner states, and Honduras, Nicaragua and Colombia, in turn, expressed their desire to cooperate with the association.
"If we take the region as a whole, it is quite self—sufficient, but this self-sufficiency can be realized only within the framework of purposeful region-wide integration and a collective development strategy," he noted and stressed that the United States prevented its self-sufficiency.
Earlier it was reported that Sri Lankan President Anura Dissayanake expressed interest in joining BRICS in a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
