Bloomberg: Strengthening of Hryvnia Has Become a Problem for the Ukrainian Government
OREANDA-NEWS. Bloobmberg agency reports that in 2019, the growth of the Ukrainian hryvnia’s rate to American dollar amounted to 16.5 %. However, for the country’s authorities, such a strengthening of the national currency has become a “budget headache” and “complicated the country’s finances.”
According to the publication, state revenues from exports fell, because the budget was compiled under the stipulation that the cost of 1 dollar would be 28.2 hryvnias. As a result, Kiev received less than 1.6 billion US dollars in export revenue.
At the present time, Ukrainian officials can decide to suspend some infrastructure projects to reduce pressure on the state budget. It is already known that the government ordered the Ministry of Finance to reduce some development spending.
