OREANDA-NEWS. Founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates, said that the advent of vaccine against COVID-19 does not guarantee that the virus will stop spreading.

The businessman was asked on the air of CNN how he relates to the words of epidemiologist Michael Osterholm, head of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. The scientist expressed opinion that the spread of coronavirus will continue until 60–70 % of the country’s population is infected or until a vaccine is created. Gates confirmed. He noted that the vaccine has two main functions: one is to provide individual protection against infection, and another allows to cease to be the carrier of the disease. At the same time, it cannot be guaranteed that the vaccine will certainly stop the spread of infection, Gates added.
