Biden Says that He Imposed Sanctions Against Russia not as a Politician, but as a Commander-in-Chief
OREANDA-NEWS Joe Biden, the President of the United States, was interviewed by the Associated Press and claimed that economic sanctions against Russia were the best choice for the United States, since it had been impossible for America not to react to the situation in Ukraine.
Biden said that the sanctions were imposed in the best interests of the country. "What happens if the strongest power, NATO, the organizational structure we put together, walked away from Russian aggression?" he added.
Biden assured that he was making a decision on economic restrictions against the Russian Federation not as a politician, but as a commander-in-chief. The US President called such measures inevitable and said that America is in a stronger position than any country in the world to overcome the inflation which happened because of the sanctions imposed against Russia.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to the request of the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are the demilitarization and denazification of the country. Western states in response to Russia's decision imposed large-scale sanctions against it. In addition, they have begun to supply weapons and military equipment to Kyiv for amounts estimated at this stage in the billions of dollars.
