The South China Morning Post newspaper, citing a publication in the Journal of Forensic Medicine, reports that an autopsy of a Wuhan resident who died of pneumonia revealed that the COVID-19 coronavirus primarily affects the lungs. Experts have insufficient data on damage to other organs.

The deceased man was 85 years old. He was hospitalized on January 1 and died 28 days later. Liu Liang, a Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, who conducted an autopsy, pointed out that the signs of pathology that appeared in the patient’s lungs were similar to those registered with the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). At the same time, pulmonary fibrosis caused by COVID-19 is less serious than caused by SARS, but exudative inflammation is more appreciable.
