OREANDA-NEWS. In Australia, the production of a vaccine against coronavirus of a new type, developed by British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, has begun. This was announced on November 8 by the head of the Australian Ministry of Health, Greg Hunt.

Biotechnology company CSL will be engaged in production. The vaccine, developed in conjunction with the University of Oxford, was selected for production as the safest medicine studied by the company. Hunt explained that CLS specialists were convinced that this vaccine elicits the expected immune response.

CSL also entered into an agreement with the University of Queensland to produce Australian vaccine against COVID-19. CSL is expected to manufacture about 30 million doses of the drug from AstraZeneca and over 50 million doses of the medication developed by the University of Queensland.

It is known that vaccination in Australia will be carried out on a voluntary basis.
