Government's Attention on Good Implementation of UNO Convention
OREANDA-NEWS. The Government at a today's meeting approved a string of indicators to monitor implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The document includes measures developed by state and indicators monitoring their effectiveness on the protection and support of the people with special needs, respecting their rights and commitments, taken by Moldova in this regard.
Monitoring the progress and effectiveness of the measures in the field of disability rights will be achieved through three categories of indicators: structural, progress and results. This will enable assessing the degree of harmonization of the national legal framework with the Convention, the effectiveness of policies and mechanisms to implement the legislation and the real impact on the lives of people with disabilities and their social inclusion.
Among the indicators approved, there is the public authorities 'commitment to develop a regulatory framework to combat discrimination against people with special needs, to ensure their access to quality public services and the special services, depending on individual needs. At the same time, people with disabilities will be supported to be actively involved in education, health, cultural and sports activities and to participate in leisure decision-taking process.
Moldova ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 9 July, 2010, committing to adjust the national legislation to the principles described in the act.
According to official data, over 184 000 people with disabilities are recorded in Moldova or 5.2% of the population, of whom over 13, 000 are children (1.8% of all Moldovan children).
