OREANDA-NEWS  Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Kirov region adopted a law according to which it is prohibited to induce a pregnant woman to have an abortion. This is stated on the website of the government of the Russian region.

It emphasizes that measures are being implemented in the Kirov region aimed at stimulating the birth rate, as well as reducing the age of a woman who is preparing to become a mother for the first time. The law is intended to increase the birth rate in the region and create a safe information environment for pregnant women.

At the same time, the authors of the bill indicate that the right to reproductive choice remains with a woman. Any attempts to influence a pregnant woman to have an abortion, for example, by bribery, deception or threats, will be unacceptable.

"To reduce the number of abortions in the Kirov region, 34 offices and a medical and social assistance center have been created on the basis of women's consultations subordinate to the Ministry of Health of the Kirov region, where legal, psychological and medical and social support is provided," the chairman of the social committee and the chief physician of the Emergency Medical Hospital Soghomon Arakelyan are quoted as saying.

Similar laws have been adopted in 15 regions of Russia. On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering a question about abortion during a direct line combined with a press conference, stated that there should be no topics on the agenda that would split our society. According to him, the authorities should think about the level of well-being of Russian families with children, about their future, as well as about the right of a woman to make any decisions.
