OREANDA-NEWS. The United States Navy’s nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Toledo (SSN-769) broke ice, coming to the surface in the Arctic during the manoeuvres named Ice Exercise.

This was reported by Defense Media Activity, a division of the Pentagon. The video was published on the YouTube channel of the US Navy. It is noted that the exercises allow the American naval fleet to assess readiness for operations in the Arctic, as well as work out interaction with its partners and allies.

In March 2018, the US Navy’s official magazine Currents informed that the multipurpose nuclear submarine USS Hartford broke ice and came to the surface during Ice Exercise. Television channel CNN noted that the Arctic became a new zone of confrontation between Russia and the United States.
