OREANDA-NEWS. The Northern Command of the United States Army wrote on Twitter that a Russian submarine surfaced off the coast of Alaska.

The department specified that the submarine is in international waters, outside the territorial waters of the USA. “The HQ of NORAD Command and US Northern Cmd are closely monitoring the Russian submarine that surfaced near Alaska today,” the message reads. The Command announced readiness to come to the rescue when receiving distress signals. The military added that so far no requests for help from the Russian Navy or other sailors have been received.

According to a source of RIA Novosti news agency in the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy, the report of Americans is about the nuclear submarine Omsk, which is participating in military exercises. Journalists’ interlocutor added that there is no emergency situation.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has not yet commented on the information of the US Northern Command.
