OREANDA-NEWS In Anapa, a special headquarters will be engaged in trapping and rescuing birds affected by fuel oil. At the moment, more than 1,300 birds have been captured, washed and placed in rehabilitation centers in the Krasnodar Territory, the Kuban operational center for the elimination of the consequences of the crash of two tankers said.

"A bird capture headquarters has been opened in Anapa, it has become the final link in a comprehensive rescue system for birds affected by the oil spill. The headquarters is located in Vityazev, on Mira Street, 113. Here you can learn how to catch birds correctly and get the necessary equipment for work. The headquarters will also provide information on where dirty birds were spotted and at what time to go to catch them," the report says.

The captured birds are taken to washing points, and after cleaning they end up in a rehabilitation center, where they are treated. According to the Kuban operational headquarters, 1.3 thousand birds have already been saved in this way.

On December 15, fuel oil tankers Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft 239 crashed in the Kerch Strait. One crew member was killed, the rest were evacuated. There was a fuel spill in the area of the emergency.

To date, the total length of the monitoring zone on the coast of the Krasnodar Territory is 220 km. Including volunteers, more than 10,000 people and 360 pieces of equipment were involved in the emergency response. Since the beginning of the elimination of the consequences of emissions, by the evening of December 26, almost 35 thousand tons of contaminated sand had been removed.

On December 25, Krasnodar Territory Governor Veniamin Kondratiev introduced a state of emergency throughout the region. On December 26, a government commission chaired by the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, introduced a federal emergency there.
