OREANDA-NEWS A tourist from China tried to smuggle four walrus tusks through the Zabaikalsk checkpoint and was caught by customs officers. This is reported on the website of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia.
Derivatives weighing almost three kilograms wrapped in duct tape were found in a foreigner's bag. The man explained that he had purchased them in a Russian village and planned to make chopsticks from these raw materials.
The Chinese noted that he was not aware of the restrictions that apply to the export of such goods. That is why he did not issue permits and did not fill out a customs declaration.
"The examination has confirmed that the objects are unprocessed fragments of walrus tusks," the report says. "Some species of these animals are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation."
At the same time, the specialists were unable to identify the subspecies due to the lack of identification features of the material. As a result, the product was withdrawn.
Two administrative offense cases have been initiated under Part 1 of Article 16.2 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (non-declaration of goods) and under Article 16.3 (non-compliance with prohibitions and (or) restrictions on the export of goods).
Earlier, two foreign tourists tried to export rare mushrooms from Russia to China and ran into a criminal case. It is specified that the first foreigner was detained at the DAPP Poltava customs post.
