The athlete said that he first thought about changing his citizenship in March 2020 after the judges, in his opinion, underestimated his grades at the Spartakiad. "They made it clear to me that they would not let me break through here if I stayed with this coach. It was not possible to change the coach for financial reasons and simply for family reasons," Murzin said.
The Russian added that in 2021 he began to cooperate with the American coach Laura Lipetsk. As a result, the specialist suggested that he move to the USA.There Murzin performed at junior competitions and qualified for the national championship.
On July 17, it became known that the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports is preparing a bill that will oblige Russian athletes to pay compensation for the change of citizenship. "This is our taxpayers' money, which should not be wasted," said Dmitry Svishchev, chairman of the committee.
