A Fight between Turkish Troops and the Syrian Army Occurred
OREANDA-NEWS. The Syrian state agency SANA, citing its correspondent, reported that Turkish troops and their allies attacked the positions of the Syrian government army in northeast Syria.
According to the agency, armed clashes occurred near the town of Tell Tamer in al-Hasakah governorate. It is reported that Turkish forces tried to occupy several villages, the Syrian troops responded to the attack, but suffered losses. There is not exact information about losses in this fight yet.
The agency also informs about clashes of Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces with Turkish forces near the city of Ras al-Ayn in the same region. According to SANA, in these battles there are two wounded local residents.
Turkey claims that it keeps the agreement on a ceasefire, but reserves its own right to attack Kurds who remain in a security zone.
The Associated Press reported that the Turkish Ministry of National Defense had confirmed clashes with Kurds in the Ras al-Ayn territory. According to the representatives of the ministry, the Kurdish militants were the first to attack the positions of the Turkish forces with the help of an unmanned aerial vehicle and mortars, they injured five people. The authority assured that the Turkish military joined a battle for defensive purposes.
Earlier, when the Kurds entered into an agreement with Damascus, Syrian government troops began to occupy positions in the north of the country, including the territory in the Tell Tamer region. Later, Turkey agreed with the United States to suspend military operation in northeastern Syria and allow the Kurds to leave the security zone.
After that, Ankara and Moscow entered into an agreement according to which the Syrian forces together with the Russian military police will patrol in the Syrian-Turkish border. Their goal is to ensure that Kurds leave the security zone. In a case of failure of the agreements, Turkey threatens to resume military operation.
