A criminal case was opened in Kamchatka after the death of tourists in an avalanche

OREANDA-NEWS Investigators in Kamchatka have opened a criminal case against the businessman who organized the hike and the 32-year-old head of the tourist group, tourists from which died on the Krasnoarmeysky pass during an avalanche on March 18, SUSK said.
"A criminal case has been opened against an individual entrepreneur and a man who headed a tourist group on the provision of paid educational services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers, which caused the death of two persons as a result of an avalanche (part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the agency reports.
The progress and results of the investigation are under the control of the Prosecutor's Office of the Kamchatka Territory. According to the investigation, the suspects provided paid educational services for the training and advanced training of instructor guides and organized a hike of the first category of difficulty.
"An assessment of the degree of guilt of each will be given, other actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy will be carried out. The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved," the prosecutor's office said.
Currently, the head of the tour group has been detained.
A tourist group of 11 people performed a hike of the first category of difficulty and consisted of students of the Travin Tourist Club from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The group was registered with the rescuers according to all the rules. The incident occurred on Monday, when a group was walking along the ridge near the Krasnoarmeysky pass. A strong gust of wind threw tourists into the lobby, after which an avalanche descended on them. Nine people were able to get out. A 44-year-old woman and a 19-year-old boy died under the avalanche.
