OREANDA-NEWS Three participants in the shootout near the Psou checkpoint, which took place on June 23 on the Abkhazian-Russian border, were detained for two months by a decision of the Gagra district court, the Prosecutor General's Office of the republic reported on Thursday.

"The Gagra district court has satisfied the petition of the district prosecutor's office for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention in respect of Batal Gojua, Beslan Gojua and Konstantin Chagovets for a period of two months," the message says.

The department also noted that the remaining four suspects will be given a preventive measure on June 28.

At the stage of initiating a criminal case, it was established that on June 23, at about 16:00 Moscow time, a group of people drove up to the Psou checkpoint in a Cherry car and started shooting from a Kalashnikov assault rifle. The attackers, according to the investigation, fired 27 shots. As a result of the wound received in the heart area, one person died on the spot, two more men and a minor girl were injured, and medical care was provided to them.

On June 25, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia reported that law enforcement officers, as a result of operational search measures, detained all participants in the shootout. The head of the ministry, Robert Kiut, said at a meeting of the Committee of the Parliament of the Republic on state and legal policy that the shootout near the Psou checkpoint occurred due to a property conflict.
