OREANDA-NEWS. September 20, 2016. In the framework of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The parties discussed prospects of intensification of bilateral trade-economic cooperation, first of all in the energy sphere.

Special attention was paid to the involvement of the Ukrainian companies in the large-scale infrastructure projects of Qatar.

The President invited the Qatari side to efficiently join the activity of the newly-established National Investment Council of Ukraine and declared interest in Qatari investors’ participation in privatization of Ukraine’s state enterprises.

The parties have also discussed the facilitation of protection of fundamental rights of Crimean Tatars living in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The Emir of the State of Qatar expressed support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and noted that his state stood against any aggression against a sovereign state. He also noted that the State of Qatar considered Crimean Tatars living in Crimea as Ukrainian citizens.

The President expressed gratitude for the consistent support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state.

The Head of State invited the Emir of the State of Qatar to visit Kyiv. The Emir of the State of Qatar accepted the invitation.
