OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2016. The scientific literature clearly shows: climate change is the most pressing environmental issue that the world faces and we must act collectively and act now.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, was visiting Quebec city to participate in a series of meetings in reaching a pan-canadian agreement on clean growth and the fight against climate change planned this fall. She reiterated the importance of working together to find innovative solutions to the significant challenges that climate change poses.

Minister McKenna first met with her counterpart, David Heurtel, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change. They considered the challenges and perspectives for Quebec and Canada in the fight against climate change, while discussing their common values and committing to an ongoing dialogue on the environment.

Along with her colleague, the Member of Parliament, the Minister led an animated discussion with thirty youth from the Quebec region, including Indigenous representatives, involved in various citizen action groups and organizations working in the field of environment. The exercise generated ideas on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, new technologies and job creation, carbon pricing and climate change adaptation.

A roundtable bringing together business representatives engaged in the development of a low-carbon economy was also on the program for the purpose of discussing opportunities and challenges for the business community of Quebec.
