OREANDA-NEWS. As part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to ensure that all Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel have access to modern and functional facilities in which to live, work, and train for many years to come, an investment of $5.8 million was announced for new and upgraded infrastructure at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Kingston and the adjacent Royal Military College of Canada.

Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, made the announcement today in Kingston, on behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan.

Through this investment, Fort Lasalle dormitory and the Yeo Hall services building at the Royal Military College will be rehabilitated. In addition, a new ammunition compound will be built for CFB Kingston, which will improve their ability to train and support unit activities.

Fort Lasalle dormitory has been home to several thousand Officer Cadets during their training and academic studies at the Royal Military College. Through an investment of $1.4 million, stone walls and masonry will undergo repair and maintenance.

Adjacent to Fort Lasalle dormitory, the Yeo Hall is a three-storey limestone building housing the kitchen, dining hall, and several support services. A sum of $3.1 million was allotted for maintenance work to the exterior of the building.

The existing ammunition facility, or ammo compound, is currently located in a repurposed undersized building at CFB Kingston. The construction of a new ammunition facility will amalgamate transit, administration, and salvage facilities. This project represents an investment of $1.3 million.

Budget 2016 has allocated an additional $200 million in infrastructure at defence facilities across the country.
