Canada welcomes new job-creating investment
The Minister welcomes the plant as an important contribution to Canada’s progressive trade and investment plan to create good-paying jobs, strengthen the middle class and help those working hard to join it. The Welland plant, slated to open in early 2018, is expected to initially employ 220 people.
A key factor in GE’s decision to open its new factory in Welland was the important access to support from Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s export credit agency. EDC is a central player in the government’s strategy to create jobs and grow the economy. GE also recognises Welland for its proximity to the U.S. border, good transportation links and access to skilled workers.
