91 percent of Russians call themselves patriots

OREANDA-NEWS Majority (91%) Russians call themselves patriots, among residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg the level of patriotism reaches 95%, while almost half (48%) of respondents believe that "being a patriot" is to act and work for the good and prosperity of the country, follows from the results of the VTsIOM survey.
"The majority of Russians, nine out of ten, call themselves patriots (91%), 52% call themselves unconditional patriots, every second. Throughout the entire observation period, the indicator did not fall below 80%, the maximum was recorded in 2018 – 92%. 5% of Russians do not consider themselves patriots," the results of the study say.
It is noted that among the residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the level of patriotism reaches 95%. At the same time, almost half (48%) of respondents believe that "being a patriot" means acting and working for the good and prosperity of the country. Another 38% are sure that patriotism is the protection of the country from any attacks and accusations. According to 32%, patriotism is "telling the truth about your country, no matter how bitter it is", "considering yourself a part of your country", 31% hold the opinion that "being a patriot" is "striving to change the state of affairs in the country in order to ensure a decent future for it". Also, 18% believe that patriotism is "to believe that your country is better than other countries."
"First of all, our fellow citizens talk about love for the Motherland through love for their family, loved ones, taking care of them (16%), 15% pointed to a small homeland, the place where they were born and grew up. Every tenth person connects love for the Motherland with love for people, mutual understanding and mutual assistance (10%). Among the manifestations of a large scale are the willingness to defend their country (9%), to know and love the history, culture and traditions of the country, to contribute to its prosperity and development (7% each).
According to 6% of Russians, loving the Motherland means being a patriot and not leaving the country," the survey said.
The All-Russian telephone survey "VTSIOM-Sputnik" was conducted on March 28, 1,600 people over the age of 18 took part in it. The survey method is a telephone interview based on a stratified random sample extracted from a complete list of cellular phone numbers involved in the territory of the Russian Federation. The data are weighted by socio-demographic parameters. The margin of sampling error with a 95% probability does not exceed 2.5%.
