World Bandy Champion Roman Geisel Committed Suicide in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. In Kemerovo on Wednesday, April 28, four-time world champion in bandy Roman Geisel was found dead, the Russian Bandy Federation reported. He was 41 years old. He committed suicide. His motives are being investigated.
Geisel is a pupil of the children's sports school of the «Kuzbass» handball club, which he played from 1997 to 2012. At the age of 32, he ended his sports career due to a knee injury. As a member of the Russian national team, Geisel played at six World bandy championships, became world champion four times, took silver twice, and won the Russian Cup twice. Six times he was included in the list of the best players at the end of the season, and in 2005 and 2011 he was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the country.
Roman Geisel was the only four-time world champion in the club's history. In recent years, he has worked as a coach. He was a member of the coaching staff of the youth and junior national teams of Russia in 2016, 2018. And «Kuzbass» goalkeeping coach in 2018-2019.
