OREANDA-NEWS. The Winter Olympic Games can be replenished with a new discipline for themselves. In Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, where the Winter Olympics will take place, snow rugby may appear. This kind of sport has never been featured in the tournament program before.

This was announced by Igor Artemiev, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Russian Rugby Federation. At a special conference, he said: "The organizers of the Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo have submitted an official application to the International Olympic Committee for snow rugby to be presented at the Games," TASS quoted him as saying.

At the moment, the Russian men's and women's snow rugby teams are among the leaders in this discipline. Both Russian national teams are reigning European champions.

Since 2016, the program of the Summer Olympic Games has also included another rugby discipline - rugby-7.

The organizing committee of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games in Beijing presented the motto of the upcoming 2022 competitions. The organization's press service said he "expresses a common desire for peace."

"Together for a common future" is the slogan of the Winter Olympics. It is noted that this motto was chosen in the light of the global response to the epidemiological situation in the world.

The statement says that such a motto reflects a position, initiative and a plan of action, defending the pursuit of a common goal. "Unity, peace, progress and tolerance are the propaganda of the Olympic spirit, expressing the common desire of the whole world to work together for a better future."

Recall that the Olympic Games in Beijing will be held from 4 to 20 February 2022.
