OREANDA-NEWS The Russian men's national team has retained third place in the ranking of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), according to the organization's website.
The Canadian national team (4150 points) came out on top of the ranking, which became the winner of the 2023 World Championships in Riga and Tampere. Finland (4080) dropped to the second place, the Russians (4050) are third. The finalist of the last tournament, the German team (3835) rose from ninth to fifth place. The Latvian national team (3610), which won bronze at the World Championship for the first time in history, rose from 11th to tenth place.
In accordance with the rating, the IIHF presented the preliminary compositions of the groups for the 2024 World Cup, which will be held in the Czech Republic. In March, the council of the organization extended the suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in international tournaments under the auspices of the organization for the 2023/24 season. The IIHF statement notes that changes are possible in the groups for organizational reasons.
