OREANDA-NEWS Russian freestyle wrestler Razambek Zhamalov has decided to change his sports citizenship and play for the national team of Uzbekistan. Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), told RIA Novosti about this.
He said that the FSFR went to meet the athlete, who in recent years could not fight for leadership due to serious injuries. "Can Zhamalov compete at the 2024 Olympics? This is a technical issue," he added.
25-year—old Zhamalov is the winner of the 2020 World Cup, the champion of Russia in 2020 and 2022 in the weight category up to 74 kilograms.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympics. They will be able to participate in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support the special operation in Ukraine and have links with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
