OREANDA-NEWS Russian boxer Azalea Amineva spoke about her fight with Algerian Iman Khelif, who failed the gender test in 2023. Her words are quoted by RT.
The athlete stated that she did not feel a big difference in power, noting that in the third round she sent Khelif to a knockdown. "I think two years later I will be able to enter the ring with her again and take revenge," Amineva stressed.
The Russian boxer met Khelif at the World Championship in 2023, which was held in India. Then Amineva sent her opponent to a knockdown, but as a result she lost.
At the Olympic Games in Paris, Khelif reached the semifinals in the weight category up to 66 kilograms. Thus, she guaranteed herself a medal at the Paris Games. Yuting also reached the semifinals in the 57 kilograms category. Both boxers received a wave of criticism during the tournament.
In 2023, the IBA suspended Khelif and Yutin during the World Cup due to non‑compliance with the admission criteria. The results of the gender test showed that female athletes have X chromosomes and increased testosterone. However, the IOC allowed them to compete in women's competitions in 2024.
