OREANDA-NEWS. According to the President of the Russian Skating Union Alexei Kravtsov, the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in relation to Russian sport will not lead to inexplicable bans on the participation of Russians in competitions.

It was announced on Thursday that Russian athletes can take part in the World Championships and the Olympic Games under a neutral flag, while athletes with a doping background can also participate in international competitions.

Alexey Kravtsov believes that there are both positive and negative aspects. In his opinion, it is not very good that a regime of collective responsibility has practically turned out - athletes are deprived of the opportunity to perform under the Russian flag and anthem. On the other hand, he is confident that there are positive aspects here, because this decision is less harsh than before Pyeongchang. There, the International Olympic Committee, for some reason that is difficult to explain, invited athletes to the Games, many Russian athletes completely unreasonably did not get to the Games in South Korea.

Kravtsov believes that there is no point in worrying about the decision taken by the CAS. He also expressed the hope that such a factor will not work in Beijing, at the 2022 Olympics. He said that it was bad that the national team of the Russian Federation would play without a flag, but the main thing was that there would be no principle of double punishment, it seemed to him that there should not be unexplained refusals.
