OREANDA-NEWS The contenders for the Laureus World Sports Awards, which is also called the sports Oscar, have become known. The nominees are announced on the award's website.

Six athletes are represented in the "Athlete of the Year" nomination. The shortlist includes Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, Argentine forward of Inter Miami Lionel Messi and Norwegian striker of Manchester City Erling Holand. Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, American runner Noah Lyles and the driver of the Red Bull Formula 1 team, Dutch Max Verstappen, also claim the award.

In 2023, Messi became the winner of the award in this nomination. He beat Verstappen, Duplantis, as well as PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, tennis player Rafael Nadal and Golden State Warriors basketball player Stephen Curry in the voting.

The award ceremony will take place on April 22 in Madrid (Spain).
