OREANDA-NEWS Guy Drew, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), explained the validity of the admission of Russian athletes to tournaments. His words are quoted by France info.
Drew said that there are no reasons for not allowing Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The IOC member stressed that athletes should not suffer because of the political decisions of the leadership of their countries. In his opinion, the participation of athletes in competitions should not be a consequence of what is happening in the world. On February 12, the head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, criticized the interference of politicians in the discussion on the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. Before that, a number of European countries spoke out against the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international tournaments, and Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pavel Jablonski called for a boycott of the Olympics in case of admission of domestic athletes.
The IOC is considering the possibility of admitting Russians to the 2024 Games in a neutral status, but there is no final decision on this issue. The competition in Paris is scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
