The 1992 Olympic Champion Resumed Her Career at the Age of 46
OREANDA-NEWS. Gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, who performed under the flag of Uzbekistan, announced the resumption of her career. The 46-year-old athlete announced this on her Instagram. «I want to tell everyone that I have decided to prepare for the Asian Games in 2022. I just can't finish my career without a medal for Uzbekistan», Chusovitina wrote.
She is the only person in the history of gymnastics who has participated in eight Summer Olympics: 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. After the Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021, Chusovitina announced her retirement. At those Games, the athlete failed to make it to the finals of the Olympic tournament in Tokyo in the vault.
Oksana Chusovitina is the gold medal winner at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, which were held in 1992. She also received a silver medal in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics. The capital of Uzbekistan regularly hosts the open city championship in gymnastics for the prizes of Oksana Chusovitina.
