Russian Men's Hockey Team Became the Champion of the Universiade
OREANDA-NEWS The Russian men's ice hockey team defeated the Slovak team with a score of 2:1 in the final of the tournament at the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.
In the Russian national team washers threw Maxim Gioshvili (36th minute) and Dmitry Kolgotin (42). The Slovaks scored Sebastian Smida (38).
Earlier on Tuesday, the canadian team won the national team of Kazakhstan in the match for third place (3:0) and won bronze.
The final of the men's tournament was the last medal competition at the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. In the medal standings of the Universiade, the Russian team took first place, winning 112 medals - 41 gold, 39 silver, 32 bronze. The second place was taken by the South Korean team (6-4-4).
On the third line is the national team of Japan (5-4-4).
The Russian national team won the men's hockey tournament at the Universiade eight times. The Slovaks were the first in 2001.
The closing ceremony of the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk will be held later on Tuesday.
The brilliant victory of the Russian team at the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk confirms the country's status as a sports power, said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
"I want to congratulate you all, congratulate our entire team on a brilliant victory at the Universiade. We really supported you, the results are really very good, because we have collected all possible awards, medals in almost all disciplines," Medvedev said at a meeting with coaches and students - members of the Russian national team at the Universiade.
