Russian champion speed skater decided to compete for another country

OREANDA-NEWS The champion of Russia in speed skating, the bronze medalist of the junior World Championship Vladimir Semirunny decided to play for the Polish national team. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The athlete stated that he had notified the Russian Skating Union of his desire to change his sports citizenship and represent another country. He thanked the Russian coaches for the years of preparation. "Now is the time to take the most important step in your development as an athlete, and international practice is needed," he explained.
Semirunny is the champion of Russia-2022 at a distance of 10000 meters. He also holds the national junior record at a distance of 3000 meters.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. The sanctions will remain in effect until further special notice.
