Russian Businessman Donated de Coubertin’s Manifesto to the IOC
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov donated the original of Olympic Manifesto written by Pierre de Coubertin to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. This was reported by the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The 14-pages manuscript of the manifesto was sold at auction in New York last December for 8.8 million US dollars. The manuscript of de Coubertin contains his speech on the idea of the revival of the Olympic Games, which he spoke in 1892. In the manifesto, de Coubertin suggests that holding international sporting events will help build a better world.
IOC President Thomas Bach thanked Usmanov for the donation, stressing that the transfer of the document is a symbolic step.
