OREANDA-NEWS The Russian national team loses the gold of the figure skating team tournament at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, instead it was awarded the third place. This is stated in a statement by the International Skating Union following the verdict on Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.

"The results of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing 2022. The results of the teams are: 1st place USA, 2nd place - Japan, 3rd place - the national team from Russia," the ISU said in a statement.

After Valieva's disqualification, the Russian team had 54 points, while the skaters of the USA had 65 and Japan had 63.

On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport approved Valieva's disqualification for four years for violations of anti-doping rules. The suspension period begins on December 25, 2021.

In February 2022, it became known that traces of a banned substance were found in a sample of a Russian woman, submitted in December 2021. By that time, she had won gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics in the team event. The result of the Russian national team in this discipline was decided to remain in force for the duration of the investigation, but the award ceremony of the national team was canceled.

Valieva was also allowed to participate in an individual tournament, where she could not get into the winners.

As a result, Valieva's result in the team tournament was canceled, and therefore the Russian national team in this discipline moves from first to third place in terms of total points. American figure skaters become Olympic champions, and the US national team itself rose from fourth to third place in the medal standings of the Olympic Games. The Russian national team, which now has five gold medals instead of six, is still in ninth place. In terms of the total number of awards (32), she is second after Norway (37).
