PSG Issued a Statement Regarding the Racist Scandal in the Match against Istanbul
OREANDA-NEWS. The press service of the French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) issued a statement about the match of the sixth round of the UEFA Champions League group stage against Istanbul Basaksehir from Turkey which was interrupted due to a racist scandal.
During the match, the reserve referee, Romanian Sebastian Koltsescu allegedly called the assistant head coach of the Turkish team Pierre Webo “black”. Webo himself and Istanbul striker Demba Ba did not like this. As a result of the incident, the players of Istanbul refused to return to the field. The match will be finished on December 9, starting at 17:55 UTC.
“Any form of racism is contrary to the values of PSG, its president, staff and football players. For over 15 years, the club has led the fight against all forms of discrimination. PSG is today one of the most committed to fighting all forms of violence and discrimination,” a statement posted on PSG’s official website reads.
